What the hour covers

What is actually sitting inside many traditional IRAs.

  • The six hidden negatives

What sits inside many traditional IRAs that a statement never shows you — and the strategy that may help address them all at once.

  • The double-compounding cost

The little-known cost many investors overlook, which under the right circumstances could impact retirement wealth by more than $500,000.

  • Paying the conversion tax

Why some companies are offering product bonuses of 20% to 55%, and how that may help offset the taxes associated with a conversion.

Whether a conversion helps, hurts, or makes no difference depends on your bracket, your other income, and how many years you have before distributions begin. Working that out is what the hour is for.

In about 60 minutes

What you’ll walk out with.

  • Where the six negatives inside many traditional IRAs show up in your own numbers
  • How growing required minimum distributions could increase your taxable income
  • Why taxes may remain one of the largest expenses you face in retirement
  • What the little-known double-compounding cost could add up to over a full retirement
  • Retirement tax planning strategies many investors tell us no one has ever explained to them
  • Strategies designed to reduce future RMDs and Medicare surcharges and manage your brackets
  • How to convert without unnecessarily reducing the retirement account you are converting

Straight answers

The questions people actually call or text and ask.

If yours isn’t here, call/text 801-876-1844 and ask a person.

Prefer a private meeting instead? By Zoom, by phone, or in the office — call/text 801-876-1844.

Do I have to buy anything?

No. Nothing is sold at the event and nothing is offered for purchase there. It is an educational event held in a public library.

Is a Roth conversion right for everyone?

No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. A conversion is a taxable event: you pay tax now for the possibility of paying less later. For some people the arithmetic works out badly. The hour is about how to tell which one you are.

Do you give tax advice?

No. This is education, not tax advice, and nothing said in the room should be acted on without your own CPA or tax advisor. Plenty of people bring what they learn back to theirs, which is exactly the right use of the evening.

I already work with an advisor. Is there any point in coming?

That is most of the room, and it is the reason the evening exists. A second opinion on taxes costs you an hour and nothing else. If your current plan already accounts for all of this, you will leave knowing that, which is worth the drive on its own.

Will someone call me afterward?

Only if you ask. Your registration is used to hold a seat and send you a reminder. If you want a follow-up conversation there is a way to request one at the event, and if you don’t, that is the end of it.

What should I bring?

If you have your most recent IRA or 401(k) statement and last year’s tax return, bring them — the conversation is far more useful against real numbers. If you don’t, come anyway. Paper and pen will be provided.

Can my spouse or a guest come?

Yes. Guests and spouses who will be part of the decision are welcome. Please make sure their name is on the registration connected with yours.

Important disclosures

This event is educational and is not tax, legal, or investment advice. A Roth conversion is a taxable event, and whether one is appropriate depends on your own circumstances. Consult your CPA or tax advisor before acting on anything discussed.

Tax rules and rates referenced reflect current published federal tax law, which is subject to change. Any dollar amounts used, including the $500,000 figure, are hypothetical illustrations of how compounding and taxation interact. They are not a projection, a guarantee, or a representation of any individual result.

Product bonuses of 20% to 55% refer to premium bonuses offered by certain insurance carriers on certain annuity contracts. Availability, bonus amount, and terms vary by carrier, product, and state, and bonuses are subject to the surrender charge periods, vesting schedules, and other limitations of the issuing carrier’s contract. A bonus is not a rate of return. Guarantees are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing carrier. No product is offered for sale at this event.
